Stylish One-Bedroom on Defensa

The Depto on Defensa

Quiet and peaceful, this adorable one-bedroom is perfect for a couple but can sleep three. On the ground floor of an historic building (Casa Colectiva Bernardino Rivadavia), The Depto has been completely renovated. We knocked down a wall to open the kitchen up to the living room and desk space. Just beyond the kitchen is a patio/breakfast room surrounded by windows.

The decor is an eclectic mix of urban and vintage. In the living room, the sofa is a mid-century modern twin bed (where the third person could sleep) and the chair is a matching crib.

The original pine floors, heavy doors, and window frames were important to restore. This is a famous building, after all. We updated the kitchen and bathroom for modern standards while leaving the solid bones that are common in 100-year-old structures. They don’t make buildings like this anymore.

The polished cement floors in the spacious bathroom feel great on bare feet. There is no bathtub, only a shower with amazing water pressure. And the soft hues in the bedroom make it much easier for you to enjoy Buenos Aires nights and sleep in. Just close the shutters on the windows and you’ll never know the sun has risen.

The best thing about the Depto though is its location. San Telmo is the most authentic neighborhood in Buenos Aires. It’s got a bohemian artsy vibe to it. Defensa, the main street, is packed with antique shops, cool boutiques, rustic eateries, and street vendors and performers galore on Sundays.

1 week $455 USD $65 USD
1 month $1500 USD $50 USD

Methods of Payment

Cash – We prefer that you pay in cash (US dollars) at the moment of check-in. There are no transaction fees or banking fees when you pay in cash, so this is the cheapest route.
Wire Transfer – You can pay by wire transfer to a US or European bank account. In this case, there is a $10 US banking fee to be paid by the renter in addition to the full rent. This should be paid before your arrival to ensure that it has reached our bank account by the time you are checking in.
Credit Cards – Credit cards can be used through PayPal. There is an additional 5% transaction fee charged by PayPal that will be added on to the rental amount. If you’d like to use your credit card or pay through PayPal, you will need to let us know in advance so that we can send the request (rent + 5%) to you before you leave home. You’ll have to pay this before leaving home because PayPal blocks access when you try to use your account while overseas.

We ask for a $100 USD deposit for short-term bookings. Please see our Rental Terms and Conditions for further details.

The location is amazing. The Depto is on Defensa, the main street here in San Telmo, just four blocks from Plaza Dorrego, the main square here in San Telmo, and about six blocks from San Telmo Loft.

Move the map around to see how close we are to Plaza Dorrego, Plaza de Mayo, and Puerto Madero.

It’s right at the top of one of the most picturesque streets in the neighborhood, Pasaje San Lorenzo, where you can visit the tiniest house in the city (La Casa Minima).

La Casa Minima

One of the best pizzerias in the city, Sr. Telmo, is right on the corner of Pasaje San Lorenzo and Defensa. On Sundays, the San Telmo street fair packs the neighborhood and stands fill even Pasaje San Lorenzo (video of the street fair).

Or, for the history buffs in the group, take a tour through the beautifully renovated El Zanjon (right next door to The Depto), the underground tunnels once used to smuggle goods from the port to the city.
