We tend to get guests that are the types of people we would be hanging out with all the time if they lived here. It’s just something about the quirkiness of our spaces. They attract like-minded people: free spirits, independent travelers, adventurous types who love traveling the world. “The San Telmo loft was a perfect choice for our vacation in Buenos Aires: wonderful apartment in a historic building, fabulous location, great price, and brilliant management!
The loft itself was just perfect. We prefer staying in apartments instead of hotels when visiting a new city, and while we always enjoy the chance to live “like a local,” this apartment exceeded our expectations. Fun, hip, and in a turn-of-the-century building with historical features like high ceilings, tiled floors in the hallways and period iron scrollwork elevator (psst–Angela, the rumors were right–it is an original Roux-Combaluzier elevator, the very same French company who supplied two of the original four elevators in the Eiffel Tower for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris)…but with all of the modern conveniences, including super water pressure in the shower!
The location can’t be beat, either. The building is on a busy enough street that it made catching a taxi just outside the door super easy at any time we wanted to go a longer distance (though our apartment was deliciously quiet, perfect for afternoon siestas), but it’s also right in the heart of San Telmo, one of Buenos Aires’s coolest and most picturesque neighborhoods, just a few minute’s walk to Plaza Dorrego, the heart of the district.
Angela was the perfect host; as an American expat living in Buenos Aires, she was able to offer us not only an insider’s view of the neighborhood and city, but also knew all of the little quirks of the city that foreigners might find difficult, and provided tips and assistance that made our stay run perfectly smoothly.
While we were there we ran into several other people who were either current or past tenants of the loft or other apartments that Angela manages, and all had nothing but great things to say about Angela and the apartments–most of them had stayed in Angela’s apartments before and had booked with her again for a return visit (which we would absolutely do, too)…that’s the best recommendation there is!”

“If you want to learn the city’s history by reading the sidewalk tiles marking the homes of activists who were disappeared during the last military regime, stay here.
The same goes for if you want to make homemade empanadas and alfajores, walk to a cobblestones plaza where artists gather by day and musicians play in the evenings, go to milongas and sip the reddest of wines while watching people of all ages dance tango, or you simply want something as comfortable as home but is unlike any place you’ve ever lived.
When I first saw Angela’s place(s) I knew that my girlfriend and I would love it. But our decision was about more than just the wonderful space we were going to inhabit for three weeks.
We came to the capital of Argentina to see Buenos Aires but also to hear it, feel it, taste it. Most of the rental places we first saw listed were cookie-cutter studios in residential high-rises. How can you truly appreciate such a passionate culture by staying in a bland tower overlooking a shopping district similar to many ones you can find in the States?
Not only was the “Hideaway” great but Angela was an awesome host. She thinks of the important things that travelers might forget, like adapters for the outlets. And she gives you a local cell phone so you can call her if you have questions about either the place or what to do in BA. How fabulous is that? I bet most hosts hope to never hear from you after check in.
And Angela and her boyfriend, John, shared their experiences of the city and the very interesting work and travels they’ve had over the years. They’ll leave you be if that’s what you want but they’ll invite you to take a graffiti tour with them if you are into that.
All in all, one of the richest travel/living experiences I have had.”

“My husband and I spent two weeks touring around South America on our honeymoon, and The Depto in San Telmo was our favourite place to call home. The apartment itself is just as described and how it appears in the photos. It is well-equipped, quiet, stylish and comfortable.
San Telmo is such a charming neighborhood, surrounded by restaurants, shopping and the Sunday market on Defensa was outstanding! There are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood. We especially loved Gran Parilla, which is only a couple of blocks away and has excellent Argentinian BBQ, and La Poecia for drinks, live music and a charming atmosphere. If you’re looking for a unique way to explore BA, the Graffitimundo tour was an inexpensive, well-organized and fantastic way to see the city.
Angela was an amazing host. She spent so much time educating us prior to our arrival on the neighborhood and Buenos Aires itself. Everything from how to get around, where to eat, what to do, and things to be wary of in BA (like fake money!). With Angela’s guidance we felt confident and well-prepared to explore the city. As our Spanish was not that great, Angela even arranged for a taxi to take us to the airport at the end of our stay and negotiated us a special rate. She was very communicative and available to answer any questions we had during our stay.
Angela’s partner Virginie was also very helpful in arranging tickets to see a River Plate soccer game and, again, arranging transportation to and from the game for us. (By the way, we highly recommend seeing a soccer game while you’re in BA if there’s a match scheduled and you have time. You just can’t match the energy in the stadium!)
Overall, a very satisfying and comfortable stay, a memorable experience and one we would recommend 100%!”

“We spent our last 4 days in BA in Angela’s gorgeous loft, and wished we had spent the whole time there!! It was a gorgeous oasis right in the heart of everything.
Before we moved in, Angela was already on the go arranging taxi pick ups for us, directing me to shoe repair shops, and finding us a fabulous private tango class (ask about Virginie and Gaston… lovely teacher, really affordable, just round the corner. I am not a dancer but Gaston works magic!!)
Her printout on local info is invaluable. We just wished we had more time to explore more of her suggestions!
The apartment itself is just as charming as it appears in the website. the master bedroom is HUGE (I was calling it my castle!!). The second bedroom is cute and sunny, and the terrrace is lovely.
You do need to take care on the steps as they are very steep, but they add to the charm of the place. It has a BATH!! And wonderful water pressure after the places we had been staying before.
As mentioned, it’s a bit of a walk to the train, but buses are close if you have time to work them out, and a walk through San Telmo to the Subte is always a nice experience.
The kitchen had everything we needed, including nice wine glasses which we put to good use.
We would have enjoyed staying longer and getting to hear more of Angela and John’s stories. They are lovely, kind, generous and interesting people who we hope to meet again.
Stay here!!”

“Angela and her place were phenomenal.First off she accepted us on short notice even tho she had someone leaving the same day we were arriving. She was very clear on directions and how to contact her, and even gave alternate methods of contact to make sure that we wouldn’t be waiting around to get in on arrival.
Her place is in the heart of San Telmo in a very old building. from the moment you step inside your transported back in time with a very old school cage like elevator that took us up to our place. She brought us inside and was very informative about everything and even had a book with listings of things to do and places to go(Which was very helpful). She even had fake bills and showed us how to figure them out so we didnt end up with counterfeits. We used her tips and cabbies were impressed that we knew how to handle the money situation. it shows them your not a newbie.
She gave us other ins and outs and recommended some places as well. we went to one place she recommended that truly turned out to be an amazing experience full of percussion. if you go you must see “La bomba del tiempo”
The apartment was amazing as well. lots of cool artwork and an upstairs bedroom that had a closet made from a chest.
it was just such a neat place to be in. Plenty to do in the area just walking distance, from yoga classes, to markets, to seeing tango. the experience was unforgettable. I would recommend this place again and again to anyone.
Angela we can’t thank you enough for having us.
It was a pleasure getting to know you and your family. Peace”

“I highly recommend both the host Angela and the beautiful room and private bathroom (Finochietto). As soon as I arrived, jet-lagged and exhausted, I felt right at home. The room was lovely, cosy, private and warm for those cold windy nights in BA. Angela greeted me like I was family. She has an eye for detail and love for this place that makes it a truly special experience. Her partner John is the MacGyver of San Telmo (just in case the local neighbours accidentally pull out the WI-FI wires to the place again – I think Angela also hopped over a roof terrace or two with John to help fix it! They make such an amazing team in managing this 100 year old refurbished apartment. Don’t hesitate to ask them anything you want to know as they are super helpful and resourceful people.
As I was traveling alone, it was also good to have a few other guests around to cook, eat, and drink Malbec with in the artistically styled shared kitchen. I met some wonderful guests in the apartment and we had some fun nights out going to see some tango, milonga’s and to local bars where Porteños lungs were full of passion.
I didn’t see everything in BA but I fell in love with this apartment and the surrounding streets around San Telmo. Enough said – I’m sure if you visit you will find the things you love about this place too.”

Reviews on Our Google+ Page
I really need to get about asking people to review us on Google+. We only have eight reviews there and they are all from guests in The Loft. If you have stayed with us, we’d love for you to leave a review on Google. We have three pages for our three locations: San Telmo Loft on Paseo Colon (The Loft, The Gallery, The Pad, and The Hideaway), The Depto on Defensa, and The Guesthouse in Barracas. Thanks a million!

“This place was more than excellent. My husband and I spent a week here on our honeymoon. We loved feeling like a local rather than a tourist. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, and Angela is the best concierge EVER! She showed us around the neighborhood, gave us lists on recommended places to go and things to do, even called for us to make reservations at a fabulous restaurant on our last day. They provide you with a cell phone, for emergencies, which we never used, but were at ease to have it just in case. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.”

“San Telmo Loft is a wonderful little nest with all the comforts of home, in the midst of gorgeous and exciting San Telmo and Buenos Aires. My husband and I are from Seatte, and we stayed at the Loft for our honeymoon in Dec. 2009. We could not have been happier. Angela (one of the owners, our contact and sometimes savior) was so sweet and helpful with tips. The neighborhood of San Telmo has wonderful restaurants, bars, and shops. (We loved Cualquier Verdura, on Humberto Primo) Your loft comes with a prepaid cell phone for emergency tips and taxis. The water pressure in the shower was impressive, and it was wonderful to have a fridge and microwave for leftovers and empanadas from the bakery. I highly recommend staying at the San Telmo loft . I would not hesitate to return, and hope that I am able to do so some day.”

“We loved staying with Angela in her loft. It’s a great deal money-wise for the space and amenities, — that plenty others wrote about below — but ultimately, it feels like staying with friends. In a very good way. Angela brought fruit and some basic supplies for when we arrived. She figured our daughter would be hungry. And before we left, we hung out chatting. That and you get to stay in San Telmo, which is such a perfect place to be in Buenos Aires. You go from the quiet and peaceful loft right into Plaza Dorrego.”
